Marketing is one of the most important things to carry out when it comes to your online business. Without it, no one is even going to know you exist, let alone buy anything you have to offer. Traffic and subscribers (or followers etc.) are very much needed in today’s digital marketing trend as we see in so many of our social media platforms today. Unfortunately, marketing is an extremely expensive thing to become involved in and many of us just simply don’t have the spare cash to make it happen. Thinking of that, this article will show you how to gain over 1 million users, without having to spend a single cent! Read on to know how:

In order to really make your app stand out from the rest of the crowd (or at least keep up with the pack), you will need to focus on retention, internationalization, product intent, customer support, app store, and reviews (or social proof). This way you do not lose out money and at the same time you are able to generate the 1 million users you want for your business.

Focus Point 1: Retention

It doesn’t matter how many users you manage to get, if you don’t keep them coming back then it is all for nothing. You can’t make money off your app if no one is using it.

Word of mouth is extremely important when it comes to your free marketing campaign and your returning users will most definitely provide this.

Before you even think about your app going viral or all the money (and fame you may get from it), focus on your customer retention!

Focus Point 2: Internationalization

Just in case you weren’t aware, everybody in the world doesn’t speak only English, there are maybe just a few more that people speak. The point is that every language you add into your app means you will potentially have given yourself more exposure to other customers. This is a great and easy way to coax-in consistent and large amount of traffic or app use.

Focus Point 3: Product Intent

If you are looking at reeling in new users time and time again, the key to achieving this is making them want to search your app specifically. You need to try and lead the user to your app while making them think it was their idea all along. This is a tried and true method of marketing since the early 50s. You can usually do this with one of two ways:

  1. You offer a solution to a problem that they are currently experiencing and would like assistance with. Think about the kind of keywords or searches they would use.
  2. Word of mouth (as mentioned earlier) is when that person looks your app up because a friend, colleague, family member etc. told them they should in order to fix their current problem.

Focus Point 4: Customer Support

A simple one really and one that should always be implemented in the brainstorm of the app, whether you are trying to gain users or not. When you have a satisfied customer or user, you have a solid foundation to gain more users in the long term. Any questions or confusion that arises from your app can quickly be dealt with and allow the user to continue utilizing your app. In the case that you don’t provide support, the user will simply delete your app and download another version out of the 1 million or so floating about in the same category.

Focus Point 5: App Store

Here is one of the most important things you will learn in life, and it’s quite likely you’ve heard it before; first impressions last. When it comes to your app store page, you need to make sure that it is the absolute best it can be. Proofread and edit your description if you have too, or get someone to write it for you if it’s not your sort of thing. Get some great screenshots and images uploaded and make sure you entice people or ask them to leave reviews for social proof (read below).

Focus Point 6: Reviews & Social Proof

This is the part of your app storefront that shows potential users whether your app is worth downloading or not. You can’t exactly control this part but it is always a wise move to try and entice current users to leave a positive review for you.

This part is so important as new users will usually decide whether they will download your app from the look of your reviews. If you have many negative ones and only a few positive ones, then you won’t be surprised to find that your traffic and user growth is stagnant.

If you do manage to find some of the unhappy users, try to make them happy and encourage them to leave a review for you. Reviews and social proof in the internet world are gold and will take you further than any hefty and expensive marketing campaign.

So there you have it! 6 awesome tips to get you on your way, even if you have absolutely nothing to start with!
