For those of you who haven’t heard the great news yet, Medium is the newest, great thing created by the very same team who gave the world Twitter. I stumbled across Medium in one of my web searching induced crazes, hoping to find a better alternative to hosting my own blog. I didn’t like using Tumblr, for a few different reasons that I won’t go into, and Medium seemed like a winning platform. Medium simply is the best thing to blogging. I mean come on, the team invented Twitter, one of the BIGGEST social media platforms, ever!
So I started posting my articles for a couple of months in the beginning, and while I only received a minor amount of ‘recommendations’ and ‘likes’, I was nothing if not consistent. As with everything in the blogging and social media field, consistency is the key. I continued to share my posts and others in the hopes that someday soon my content would be frequented in the same way. I also managed to find out which of my posts are the most popular and in the case of Medium, it was my listicles (or list posts). This happens to place medium, as the next big thing to blogging.
A great thing about Medium is that when you post a popular story or article, the content can stay up there for as long as it is recommended and shared. I uploaded an article at the beginning of June and it now has well over 300 000 views and more than 10 000 recommendations (all after amassing a small following but nonetheless)!
If there is one piece of advice I can give to fellow writers, it’s this: MAKE USE OF THIS GREAT PLATFORM! Since it is already gaining in popularity, it would be in your best interests to sign up to Medium and begin showing off your work to a global audience. It is just one more way for you to get some free advertising and exposure in order to get your online business running along.

- Your headline will lure the audience in so make sure it sums up your article succinctly
- Use a horizontal image at the top of your article to also lure in potential readers. Some may not look at your headline but be enticed by your picture to linger more
- Make your article stand out where appropriate by using the many simple formatting options provided by Medium
- Always check your grammar, punctuation, formatting, and anything else that could make you look like an amateur or beginner, not a professional
