Blogs Can Become Businesses Too, You Know?

Blogs Can Become Businesses

Let me start off by firstly asking if any one reading this has had the same conversation at some point in their lives (possibly many more times too):

“So what is it that you do for a living?”

“I’m a professional blogger.”

“Oh yeah, but I mean for work, like what do you do as a profession?”

“I’m a professional blogger.”

Do you think blogs can become business? Here is what I would like to say –

Everyone who actually blogs and make a living off their blogging has definitely had this conversation with their peers or networks before. In fact, revealing what you do for a living can be somewhat hard to exhibit but now that the digital age has clearly, well and truly taken over the business world, blogging doesn’t seem so ‘lame’ now, does it?

Almost anyone with an interest in anything can start up a blog, and if they work hard enough, get moving into a fully-fledged, full time blogging business. Read on for more information on the Indian businesses who started way back before it was trendy or cool and saw the massive potential to get ahead of the pack. Wow, were they right!

Kunzum

Kunzum is, at the very first sight, a travel style blog. The source behind the blog is a blogger called Ajay, who wanted to create something that people would turn to whenever they wanted to know anything about traveling. It began as a traveler’s diary, then transformed into Kunzum Travel Café, and then morphed into the very successful Kunzum TV (an online travelogue show).

Ajay started off by simply wanting to share his love of traveling but he did so in a way that was unique to readers and viewers. It was THE popular blog to visit and consume an amalgam of travel content. With the blog having more than 70 000 subscribers, Kunzum gets most of its content views through shares, likes, and forwards which is obviously a merit to how successfully popular Ajay’s website content is.

Popxo

Popxo is a fashion blog and website that is aimed at young, urban Indian women and is run by a very experienced lifestyle journalist, Priyanka Gill. Before starting Popxo, Priyanka saw that many fashion articles and ‘glossies’ were only showing handfuls of clothing and style for Indian women and she decided to fill the gap. The fascinating part though, is that Priyanka focused on spreading her blog and website through social media and mobile utilization and appealing to young, urban, Indian women. With more than 1 million users after the first 7 months of going live, Popxo is another blogging success story!

Miss Malini

A semi-famous paparazzo in India, Miss Malini is the go to when Indians want to reach and absorb the latest entertainment industry news and gossip. The blogger responsible for this is Malini Agarwal, who happens to have her face as the company and website’s brand.

Miss Malini noticed that most of the paparazzo news in the entertainment industry was consistently negative and shocking and decided to go the opposite route, showing off the glamorous and fantastical side to the showbiz industry. It seems other people wanted to find this out too and began frequenting her blog. With happy reporting, happy audiences, and happy articles, she hit the jackpot having over 500 000 visitors every month and investors to boot! Malini has no desire to stop anytime soon and has even employed a number of extra paparazzi in order to help spread her style of blog.

Style Fiesta

Style Fiesta is the brainchild of a serious introverted tomboy named Masoom Minawala. Masoom was fascinated with everything that the industry of fashion had to offer but having no real clothing options for Indian girls who were more, let’s say ‘tom-boyish’, she decided to go against the trend and create some. Only a year later and Style Fiesta ended up creating her own shop online, selling her creations to the world and not just India! She now defines some of the fashion trends instead of just following them and has her own style added to every item she creates.

Minawala has now even started her own jewelry line, which she sells through her fashion company and it seems that the sky is the limit for this young, aspiring artist!

The next time someone asks you what you do for a living, you can feel right as rain knowing that your endeavor is not just a ‘hobby’, but something that, if done right and hard, can turn into a business that your networks and peers can be completely envious of! Keep up the good work and remember to have a unique spin on things to get even more views.
